MINISTER OF FINANCE II

Pehin Dato Abdul Rahman Ibrahim was born in 1954.

He attended tertiary education at the University of Hull in the United Kingdom and graduated with a BSc Economics (Hons) degree in 1978.  He was awarded a Certificate of Professional Studies from Arthur D. Little School of Management U.S.A. in 1986 and attended a Senior Management programme at the London Business School, United Kingdom in 1996.

Apart from his portfolio as the Minister of Finance II at the Prime Minister’s Office, Pehin Dato Abdul Rahman is also the Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors at the Brunei Investment Agency (BIA); Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sustainability Fund; Deputy Chairman II of the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation; and Board Member of the Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam (AMBD).

During his 32 years of service with the Government of His Majesty The Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Pehin Dato Abdul Rahman held various important posts.  These include Director of Administration cum Head of Financial Regulations Unit in the Ministry of Development (1987); Director of Financial Institutions, Ministry of Finance (1992); Director of the Economic Planning Unit, Ministry of Finance (1995); Director of Budget, Ministry of Finance (1998); Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources (2000);  Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Finance (2001); and Acting Managing Director of the Brunei Investment Agency (2001).

In September 2004, Pehin Dato Abdul Rahman was appointed the Deputy Minister of Finance before being promoted as the Minister of Finance II in May 2005.  He was reappointed as Minister of Finance II at the Prime Minister’s Office in May 2010.

Pehin Dato Abdul Rahman married Datin Sapiah Hj Sabtu, in 1977. They have 2 daughters and 3 sons.
