Optimizing Our Local Subject Matter Experts (SMEs)

Local Subject Matter Experts or SMEs are professionals in our workplace who are equipped with an extensive knowledge about GEMS online processes and ready to support us in any difficulties we may be facing when using GEMS. Previously in Release 1, we rely on the support of local GEMS trainers in our departments or ministry which could sometimes be difficult to obtain due to two main reasons:

  • Our local GEMS trainers are busy either with their own work or supporting other users at the time

  • Our local GEMS trainers could only guide us on how to perform an online process but not how those processes fits into our own administrative work

From the challenging issues identified above, the GEMS team is now fine-tuning the approach on how to support us by

  • helping our trainers gain a better understanding of how the new online processes fit into our own administrative work

  • widening our network of support with more local SMEs

Better Equipped SMEs for Us

Our local Trainers will be better equipped with the knowledge required to support us when using GEMS in our daily work lives. The extensive training provided in Release 2 onwards will now include both online and offline processes of GEMS which allows them to gain a wider knowledge perspective of how administrative work should be done in our department or ministry. In short, this means that they will not only be able to guide us on how to perform a HR process in GEMS but also tell us what are the manual procedures needed to complete those processes.

Change Agents - Our Second Line of Support

From Release 2 onwards, our local Change Agents will now be joining the Trainers to attend extensive training workshops on GEMS and its processes. This means that when we cannot get the help we need from our Trainers, we can look for our local Change Agents to check if they can help us before calling the GEMS Help Desk.

In conclusion, from Release 2A onwards our local SMEs will be equipped with the knowledge of both online and offline processes of GEMS which will make them much more capable of understanding our difficulties in GEMS and helping us in understanding what needs to be done to complete a HR process.
