GEMS R2 Localized Training Materials

From the survey that was held in Release 1 (see The GEMS Survey - What We Said), the GEMS Team has learned that there were difficulties in understanding what needs to be done in GEMS and how the new processes fits in to our current work processes. Proactive measures have been taken to improve the training approach for R2 (Release 2)

In this article, we will learn

  • about the improvements made to the training approach for R2

  • how these improvements will help with the understanding of GEMS new processes

  • when these quick guides will be made available and to whom

Translated Training Materials

Based on the feedback from GEMS HR Users who had receive training during R1, there were difficulties in understanding English written training materials used in the workshops. Moving forward, the GEMS team are now having all Quick Guides translated into the Brunei Malay language. The quick guides for R2 will be localized in order to help HR Users feel more comfortable in using the training materials provided and understand it at the same time.

Offline Processes Integrated

It has been found that HR Users in Release 1 were having difficulties in relating the new online processes in GEMS to the real-life work processes in the office. Moving forward, all Quick Guides in Release 2 will now provide information on the offline procedures of a particular GEMS process.

In each Quick Guide, there will be an additional page which will commonly have (but not limited to) the following information:

  • A short summary on the offline or supporting processes

  • A checklist of items such as a list of supporting documents or action items that needs to be done

Offline information that will be included in the quick guides are based on existing official guidelines known as Manual Prosedur Kerja (MPK). The MPK are document of references for all civil servants on the vision, mission, objectives, functions and processes of the Brunei's governmental working organization.

In short, the GEMS Quick Guides in Release 2 will provide additional information on what needs to be done outside the system to complete a particular GEMS process and provide us with a wider understanding of how the new GEMS processes fit into the standard procedures of our governmental work.

GEMS Quick Guides : When and Where

The Malay translated quick guides containing the standardized offline processes are currently being developed by the GEMS team and it will be distributed to HR Users in the training workshops provided for R2. More information such as when and where the workshops will be conducted will be provided at a later date.
