GEMS Online Services For Self-Service Users

On the 8th February 2010, GEMS Self Service functions will be made available for all Self Service Users. Self Service functions are online transactions that users can make or request without going through their respective HR User.

 

This article will allow us to understand:

  • the common types of Self Services available online

  • what we can do whenever we encounter a problem in GEMS

  • what the Self-Service Booklet is and how it can help us

 

GEMS Online Self Service by Modules

Provided below are some examples on the types of online services that is available for the Self-Service Users in GEMS:

1.0 Organisation Management
  • Online submission of Portal Content News
  • Submitting Room Booking requests / Cancellation online.
2.0 Recruitment Management
  • Allows easy searching of jobs and to submit a job application online.

  • Search for available job postings on the website

  • Fill in an online application form to sit for an exam after the exam schedule has been announced.
3.0 Employee Data Management
  • Allows you to submit or edit your personal information electronically
  • Searching for Jobs Self-Service
4.0 Employee Deployment Management
  • View a list of helpful induction documents to help you get started as a civil servant.
5.0 Absence Management
  • Manage your Check in and out time online.

  • Apply, cancel or change your leave application.
6.0 Benefits Management
  • View your entitled benefits claims.

  • Request for your benefits claims online & view the claims status after submission.

  • Apply for your entitled uniform & housing for rent claim.

  • View your pension request that has been submitted by your Line Manager.
7.0 Employee Development Management
  • Review list of course sessions
  • View enrollment status of course enrolments
  • Apply for travel arrangements for in-service training
8.0 Performance Management
  • Define your objectives and review completed evaluations online.
  • Access performance appraisal forms
  • Approve or deny completed performance evaluation form

 

 

GEMS Help Center
The GEMS Help Center is an online performance support page aimed at providing online support materials for all GEMS Users. Situated on the homepage of the GEMS web-based system, it contains a library of self-help Quick Guides, CBT (Computer Based Training) programs and a useful FAQ (Frequently Asked Question) section. Find out more here.

Self-Service Booklet
The Self-Service Booklet is a reference guide on how to use the Government Employee Management System (GEMS) as a Self-Service Employee. It provides useful information on what GEMS has to offer for all Self-Service Users. This booklet contains information on :

  • What GEMS Means to You- a list of various online services by modules that GEMS has to offer and how it can benefit the Self-Service User.
     

  • Getting Started with GEMS- The minimum system requirements that are needed in order to have a smooth experience when using GEMS on your machine will be clarified on this section of the booklet.
     

  • GEMS Key Features and Functionalities- This section contains set of guides that can assist in enhancing your technical skills to effectively use GEMS in performing any self-service transactions like signing in and out and instructions on navigating around GEMS.
     

  • Common Pages in GEMS- This part of the booklet has easy step-by-step instructions on where to navigate in order to update your name, address, phone numbers, emergency contacts, email addresses, marital status and ethnic group, hence making it an easy experience for the user.
     

  • Helpful Hints and Tips- New and having problems accessing GEMS? This section of the booklet provides resolution and clarifies common access or login problems. Step-by-step, easy-to-read instructions on navigate around the GEMS Help Center link has also been included.
     

  • Getting Help from GEMS Page- This section will guide you on how to access the GEMS Help Centre page whenever you need help while you are working in a GEMS page. How to access the GEMS page to how to save Quick Guides all explained within this section.
     

  • Self-Service Quick Guide Index- This section is an index of all Quick Guides available for Self-Service Users. Use this section to understand:
    -The common elements used in each quick guide
    -What quick guides are available to Self-Service employees.
    -Where the Quick Guides are
